The Porcupine Prince is a picture book written by Tom Haviv and illustrated by Inbar Algazi. The story is about our fundamental need for touch and connection, and the problem of expressing this need in a world that seems callous to it, or too busy to hear it.

After trying in vain to explain his feelings of isolation to his family in his prickly hometown, the Porcupine Prince, embarks on a journey of self-discovery. He travels for “days and nights” until he slips into an unfamiliar landscape that is filled with salamanders. In Salamander City, he learns to overcome, even transcend, his personal and physical obstacles in order to connect with his strange new friends. When he is finally ready and able to leave their world, he brings his magic experience of touch back home to help him reconnect with his family. This reconnection is marked by a feast: a meeting of two worlds: the worlds of distance/order & intimacy/play.
